Edmonton is the capital city of Alberta, located in the central region of the province. The city proper covers an area larger than Chicago, Philadelphia, Toronto or Montreal, but thanks to a great deal of undeveloped land, parkland, and reserves, has one of the lowest population densities of any city in North America. |
Edmonton is known as a cultural, government, educational, and shopping centre, and plays host to a year round slate of world class festivals. In 2004 Edmonton celebrated its incorporation as a city and the metropolitan area is now home to more than a million people. |
